Bluefield Coal Show
I spent last week at the Bluefield Coal Show. Lots of coal miners, mine owners, equipment manufacturers and related businesses. The coal business is alive and well in West Virginia. Governor Joe Manchin even made an appearance. They ran out of parking both Wed and Thurs and parts of both days the traffic was backed up 2 miles. I saw customers and potential customers, a couple competitors (they don't count for much) and lots and lots of torque wrench applications. Still competing with cheater bars and pipe wrenches, not so much other hydraulic wrench companies (they don't count for much). The was even a guy selling Chinese knock-off wrenches (he don't count for much). Looks like we will have a good year based on whose mining coal.

Torquing
Welcome to the world of bolting tools. I am a square drive bolting tool. Pin a socket to me, hook up my pump and I can give you incredible power. Calibrated to NIST standards I can torque to +/- 3% accuracy. I can solve your fastener problems and eliminate your fastener failure problems by torquing within specs to begin with. I eliminate the problem of stuck fasteners and I eliminate the safety issue of cheater pipes and extensions. Between me and my square drive brothers we can torque from 120 ft/lbs to 60,000 ft/lbs. My extended family of hex drive tools allows us to turn any threaded fastener even in tight spaces. In the coming months this blog will look at any application where hydraulic bolting tools are called for and describe how the job is accomplished.
